Our ladies from Projects Committie are taking the lead in helping Kafwa Drop-in Centre to have the roofing project rolling.

Kafwa is a non-profit school set up by Rosemary Mumba. The school construction began in 2016. Kafwa managed to build the library, the dining room, the kitchen, the storeroom and the sick bay for their students. Unfortunately, due to financial challenges the roofing has not been done.

DISA Projects Committee engaged with the experts from LICHIFI Construction. A series of meetings have been held with LICHIFI team to have the plan approved by the city council and obtain the quotations for the roofing project. It is our hope that well wishers will join us in this venture, so that by the end of August the students can utilize the facilities.
We are grateful to LICHIFI team for their contribution to this project. If you are willing to engage with us and assist Kafwa with this important mission by sponsoring the materials, kindly contact DISA Zambia by sending an email to: disazambia1@gmail.com

Coffee Morning in the 37d Gallery, 3rd June 2019

Take one of the most beautiful and tranquil places in Lusaka with art works, artifacts, jewellery and a Cafe and add 18 DISA members, and what do you get - a Coffee Morning with a difference!

The visit started with Curator Tukiya Fundafunda giving us a short overview of the work of the 37d Gallery and the START Foundation.  After that Gloria presented the crafts section with artifacts from several African countries, and lastly in Jagoda Gems Mena told us about the different gemstones used in their jewellery.

We ended our visit in the Cafe enjoying coffees and teas, and saying our thanks and farewells to three active DISA members: Hiroko Sasaki (moving back home to Japan), Sally Abdrabou (moving back home to Egypt) and Barbara Harvey (from UK, but heading for Myanmar).
Safe travels, friends, we'll miss you!

37d Gallery is located within a beautiful contemporary building in the Kabulonga area (on Middleway 37d). The Gallery holds a wide range of art works by both local Zambian artists and international artists. The Gallery is a non-profit organisation which in turn supports the START Foundation which is a charitable trust dedicated to the generation and promotion of visual arts practice and arts education in Zambia. For more information, please visit:  www.thestartfoundationtrust.org

Indian Cooking Class 30th May 2019

We had such a great time in Kala Iyengar's Indian (South Indian, to be exact) cooking class. She had arranged a temporary kitchen outdoors on her patio, so that we could enjoy the fresh air and her beautiful garden while cooking.

Kala proved an extremely well organized hostess and teacher -  with all ingredients already peeled and cut and sliced and grated, and all spices beautifully laid out, it felt like cooking in a professional kitchen!

Although a vegetarian herself, Kala showed us how to prepare Lamb Curry (with the help of a pressure cooker to speed things up), as well as Peas & Potato Curry, Dhal, Carrot &Tomato SaladVegetable Pulao and Raita what an Indian feast!

A happy bunch of ladies after an absolutely delicious Indian meal. Thank you, Kala, and thank you all ladies participating - together we raised K1800 for DISA charity projects!
